The Montisi Urban Studios are located at a unique junction in the neighborhood as the last multi-family parcel before the zoning transitions to single family. Working within a 30’ height limit, the gable roof provided an opportunity to respond to the surrounding residential context as well as gain additional height as a bonus under the zoning code. Seeking to utilize traditional residential forms and materials in a modern manner, the asymmetrical gable roof and board and batten siding provide this four-story apartment building with a familiar character and scale. The project was conceived as two separate buildings connected at the ground floor entry. Without an elevator, all accessible units, common amenities and services are provided at the ground floor.
